Designing for Well-Being: A Tranquil Interiors Collaboration with Body Haus Lifestyle Club
At Tranquil Interiors, we believe design is more than just aesthetics—it’s about creating environments that support wellness, connection, and intentional living. Our recent collaboration with Body Haus Lifestyle Club in Norton Shores, Michigan, is a perfect example of how thoughtful design rooted in science can enhance both personal experience and community well-being.
A Shared Vision for Community & Connection
Body Haus is a premier wellness destination offering Reformer Pilates, Hot Yoga, Red Light Therapy, Cold Plunge, and more—all under one roof. Their core values of community and holistic well-being aligned seamlessly with our philosophy. When the Body Haus team discovered how we apply NeuroAesthetics and the 15 patterns of Biophilic Design in our work, they knew we could help elevate the space to match the transformative experiences they provide.
Together, we set out to design an interior that not only functions for movement and therapy but also nurtures the nervous system, encourages connection, and reflects the natural beauty of the West Michigan Lakeshore.
Design That Moves With You
Challenge: The facility’s footprint was compact and needed to manage the flow of attendees through shared areas without creating tension or congestion.
Solution: We incorporated rounded corners throughout the common areas—echoing the organic curves found in both nature and Pilates practice. These subtle shifts soften transitions, support ease of movement, and invite calm rather than chaos.
Warmth, Texture, and Purpose
To add dimension in a space where textiles are minimal, we introduced vertical wood slats—a versatile element that brings warmth and natural texture. These slats not only accent the curved architecture but also serve a highly functional role. They highlight key areas such as the retail display, built-in seating, and coat storage, while elegantly concealing the necessary menagerie of props used in yoga and Pilates. This design choice reinforces biophilic principles while contributing to a clean, organized environment that feels elevated and intentional.
Color as a Tool for Balance
The palette was key in setting the tone for wellness:
SW7702 Spiced Cider envelops the yoga and reformer studios, grounding members in warmth while energizing the spirit.
SW9173 Shiitake, the studio’s signature neutral, keeps main passageways light and expansive, allowing sunlight and West Michigan’s stunning sunsets to flood in through large storefront windows.
SW6193 Privilege Green, a biophilic favorite, was used in therapy zones to subtly calm the nervous system. Green is the most restful color for our eyes and deeply connected to nature’s rhythm.
Activating the 15 Patterns of Biophilic Design
Every corner of Body Haus integrates science-backed strategies that help restore and regulate:
Fractal patterns in cold plunge art support visual harmony
Nature-inspired artwork in windowless zones extends the outdoors inward
Adjustable lighting and temperature control adapt to personal needs
Unpredictable sensory elements, like the movement of essential oil diffusers and the earthy aroma of their signature scent, engage the subconscious
From the textures of natural materials to the soft curves and carefully selected colors, every detail works in tandem to lower stress, improve mood, and foster long-term wellness.
